When I’m bouldering I’m in the here and now, fully focused. In that moment, everyday life simply doesn’t matter.
Welcome to BOULDERCENTER Grenzach-Wyhlen
Looking for something a bit special in the tri-border area of Germany, Switzerland and France, right on the doorstep of Basel? Then come to BOULDERCENTER Grenzach-Wyhlen. Come on your own or with friends, whether you are a complete beginner or already experienced.
With around 1,200 m² of bouldering surface and a wide range of boulder problems across all grades, there is something here for everyone. On top of that we have a large training area for focused basic and advanced training.
For children there is a separate kids’ area – for climbing, but also for playing and letting off steam.
Our centre doesn’t just give you the chance to improve your climbing. It’s also a place to relax with friends or family and forget the stress of the day – not least in our lounge, over good coffee and tasty snacks.
We look forward to seeing you.

What is bouldering?
Bouldering is climbing without a rope or harness at jumping-down height – a height from which you can drop off safely. It is done on boulders, rock faces or artificial climbing walls, usually in bouldering gyms or on natural rock. The sport calls above all for strength, technique, flexibility and coordination.
You climb short routes, usually only a few metres high, known as boulder problems, with thick mats or crash pads protecting you from falls. Bouldering is a full-body workout and suits every age group and ability, because everyone sets their own pace.
How our routes work
We have routes in eight different grades, from 1 to 8. Each route is marked by holds of a single colour. Both the wall and the volumes may be used.
Volumes are structures on the wall, usually recognisable by their screw holes. A route starts at one or two starting holds marked with the route number. From there you climb using the other holds up to the hold marked with a “Top” sign.
The top edge may not be used, but side edges may. If there is no “Top” sign, you have to climb over the top edge – and in that case the edge may be used.
